The Paris Biofoundry had the pleasure of hosting a Japanese delegation composed of representatives from the Kobe Biofoundry at Kobe University, representatives of the City of Kobe and members from the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) as well as the The Japan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

This visit provided an opportunity to present the structure, technological capabilities, and distributed model of the Paris Biofoundry, including its automated Design–Build–Test–Learn (DBTL) workflows and high-throughput engineering platforms. Our Japanese colleagues introduced their recent scientific advances, ongoing research programs, and long-term strategy for strengthening Japan’s biofoundry ecosystem.

The discussions focused on automation strategies, standardization approaches, and the role of biofoundries in accelerating synthetic biology at national and international scales. Particular attention was given to identifying complementary expertise and exploring future avenues for collaboration, including joint projects, technology exchanges, and strengthened international networking.

Such exchanges reinforce the importance of global cooperation in building interoperable biofoundries capable of addressing major societal challenges in health, environment, and industry.

The Paris Biofoundry looks forward to continued dialogue and future collaborations with its Japanese partners.
