Everything you need to engineer biology at scale in one place.
Four platforms. One shared infrastructure. From a single sequencing reaction to a full-scale bioproduction pipeline, the Paris Biofoundry gives you access to the equipment, expertise, and standardized workflows to move your project forward, without the years and capital it takes to build it yourself.
How we’re organized
The Paris Biofoundry isn’t a single lab, it’s four specialized sites, each bringing its own expertise, working together as one platform:
– The DNA and Microbe Biofoundry (Sorbonne University) : DNA parts assembly and microbial chassis engineering & phenotyping.
– The Cell-Free Biofoundry (Institut Micalis) : cell-free experimentation and digital/software tools to support your project.
– The Mammalian Biofoundry (Institut Curie) : engineering and phenotyping of mammalian cell lines for medical and research applications.
– The Industrial Biofoundry (Genopole) : scale-up capabilities and industrial collaboration.
Depending on your project, you might work with one site or several, we handle the coordination so you don’t have to.
Our Services available now

DNA Sequencing
Fast, reliable sequencing for your constructs, whether you need a quick check on a single clone or full-coverage confidence on an entire plasmid.

MoClo DNA Toolkit
Accelerate your cloning workflows with ready-to-use Golden Gate / MoClo assembly toolkits, curated, standardized DNA parts for fast, modular, and reproducible multi-gene assemblies.

High-Throughput Screening
Automated platforms (liquid handlers, robotics) enabling rapid development and screening of genetically engineered cell lines at scales impossible to achieve manually.

High-Throughput Phenotyping
Detailed characterization of cell physiology at scale: cell counting, mRNA quantification, AI-assisted confocal fluorescence analysis, metabolomics, genomics, and proteomics, genotyping and automated culture tracking included.

Metabolic Engineering & Bioproduction
Production of biomolecules using innovative methods, including microalgae-based bioproduction systems, from strain design through to process optimization.

Custom Design
Every project is different. Tell us about your high-throughput or engineering need, and we’ll scope a customized service around it, this is where the most interesting, non-standard projects usually start.

On-Demand Equipment Access
Individual, tutored access to specialized equipment: cell sorters, automated microscopes, liquid handlers, sequencers, mass spectrometers, and more, without the capital cost of owning it yourself.

Equipment Training & Consulting
Hands-on training on our equipment, plus consulting support if you’re evaluating whether to acquire similar infrastructure yourself.

Platform Tours
Guided tours of our infrastructure for small or large groups (split as needed), with an introduction to our equipment and services, useful for prospective partners, students, or delegations.
What Working with us looks like
1) You reach out with a short description of your project and the service(s) you’re interested in (see below for what to include).
2) We scope it together, usually via a short call or written exchange, to confirm feasibility, timeline, and cost.
3) You create an account on our platform to submit your request and track progress.
4) We deliver, results, data, or materials, through secure channels, with confidentiality handled under strict institutional frameworks appropriate for sensitive research data.
5) You come back for the next project, or scale up the engagement as your needs grow.
How to get in touch
Getting started is simple. The more context you give us up front, the faster we can scope your project and come back with a real answer, not a generic reply.
→ Use our Contact form, or write to us directly at sciences-biofonderie-direction@sorbonne-universite.fr.
When you reach out, please include:
1) Your name, title, and organization (lab, company, or institution)
2) A short project abstract: 2–4 sentences on what you’re working on and why
3) The specific service(s) you’re interested in: see our full list of services
4) Scale and timeline: how many samples/constructs, and when you’d ideally want results
5) Any confidentiality requirements: we’re well equipped to handle sensitive research data under strict institutional frameworks
We typically reply within a few business days to scope next steps: a short call, a quote, or a direct handoff to the most relevant of our four sites.
