Introducing the Paris Biofoundry!

We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the Paris Biofoundry, a pioneering initiative that brings together leading research institutions from across the Île-de-France region. Focused on advancing synthetic biology, the Paris Biofoundry offers state-of-the-art facilities to engineer and test biological systems at unprecedented scales. By fostering collaboration among world-class researchers, students, and industry partners, the Biofoundry is poised to develop groundbreaking innovations in health, environment, and biotechnology.

With a network of specialized sites, including platforms dedicated to DNA assembly, cell line engineering, microbial technology, and industrial scalability, the Paris Biofoundry is set to become a cornerstone of biotechnological advancement in France. The facility not only drives scientific discovery but also cultivates the next generation of synthetic biology leaders through education and hands-on research opportunities.

Here’s a closer look at the four distinct platforms that make up the Paris Biofoundry:

  • The DNA and Microbe Biofoundry: The Alliance Sorbonne Université Biofoundry focuses on the assembly of DNA parts and the engineering and phenotyping of biological chassis. The ASU Biofoundry is critical for supporting all Paris Biofoundry projects by providing foundational components and expertise for synthetic biology experiments.
  • The Mammalian Biofoundry: Specializing in engineering mammalian cell lines, the platform at the Institut Curie is at the forefront of medical applications, particularly for cancer research and therapeutic development. The platform supports the creation and phenotyping of cellular systems designed for clinical use.
  • The Cell-free Biofoundry: This platform is dedicated to cell-free experiments and the development of software solutions to aid other Paris Biofoundry projects. The Micalis Institute enables researchers to conduct biochemical reactions outside of living cells, opening new possibilities in synthetic biology and biotechnology.
  • The Industrial Biofoundry: Genopole’s platform is focused on scaling up innovations for industrial use and fostering industrial collaborations. From small-scale experiments to full-scale production, this platform ensures that the Biofoundry’s innovations can be applied in real-world industrial processes, advancing biomanufacturing and environmental solutions.

As the Paris Biofoundry embarks on this journey, we invite researchers, industry leaders, and innovators to join us in shaping the future of biotechnology. Together, we will address critical global challenges and unlock new possibilities for health and sustainability.
